About Us

Company History:

Lifelong friends, Marcus Schaper-Kotter and Brett Murray, started Gum Fighters Ltd. together in September of 2008. The idea to start Gum Fighters came while Brett was traveling in Australia. He observed a company that, because of drought conditions in the area, was using dry vapour steam to remove chewing gum spots from the pavement. With the thought of combining the abilities of these dry vapour steam machines with those of more traditional pressure washing methods, Gum Fighters was born.

Brett drew on past work experiences to handle all of the operations side, while Marcus used his business background to manage all of the sales and customer relations. The company has since been featured in The Vancouver Sun, The Province, Global Morning News, BCIT TV and the Georgia Straight Best of Issue.

Gum Fighters ability to target a niche market with innovative cleaning techniques has allowed us to gain a lot of momentum. Our attention to detail and our genuine focus on customer service has allowed us to establish many meaningful client relationships in a short period of time.

Company Profile:

Marcus Schaper-Kotter
General Manager

Marcus, co-founder of Gum Fighters, took the marketing management program at BCIT. He held previous employment as a sales manager for a major athletic apparel retailer. A loyal devotee to the Vancouver Rowing Club’s Rugby Division, Marcus can be found around town supporting local athletics, working out at the gym or enjoying the company of friends and family.

Brett Murray
Operations Manager

Brett, co-founder of Gum Fighters, earned his B.Sc. in chemistry and played varsity baseball at the University of British Columbia. A keen participant in any competitive sport, Brett’s other interests include traveling, attending concerts and spending time with friends and family.

Adam Freund
On Site Manager

Employed with Gum Fighters since its inception, Adam has been the leading force in establishing and implementing all of our onsite operations procedures. His interests include camping, snowboarding and spending time at his cabin in Ontario.

Peter Gourlay
Account Manager

Peter is a graduate of the marketing management program at BCIT. He is dedicated to developing and maintaining lasting relationships with all of Gum Fighter’s clients. His interests include all things New York Yankees and spending time on Vancouver Island.
